2 Weeks to go!
With 2 weeks to go to race day, we just want to update you on race plans. Still loads of work for us to do, but so far everything is where we need it to be. We even managed a run this morning, it wasn’t pretty, but we loved it!
These are out in the post and will be with you very soon. If it does not arrive after your post has been on Friday 25 August then you need to e mail us email@example.com . Before you do please make sure you haven’t moved house without letting us know!
You all know the rules, do not under any circumstances give your running number to someone else just to save a few quid.
Race Day Travel
We expect Cleethorpes to be very busy on the morning of the race. Please arrive really early and grab yourself a drink from one of the many seaside cafes that will open up early for you. Details of the car parks are on the WEB SITE www.abphumbercoastalhalf.com . It would be good if you can lift share too.
The start and finish are on the promenade a short distance away from The Pier. You need to be on the start line no later than 9.45 am. It is important that you position yourself in the start area in a place which reflects your ability. You are chip timed, so no need to slow runners down behind you.
This is our top priority and needs to be yours too.
The roads and footpaths are closed for the duration of the race. However, you need to be aware of your surroundings at all times, as motorists or pedestrians may try and gain access to the course, despite our best efforts.
St. Hugh’s Hospital Fun Run
Thanks to the support from St. Hugh’s Hospital, we have opened entries to the fabulous sea front fun run. Just over a mile in length this starts and finishes in the same place as the half marathon, taking in a lovely section along the beach! Medal and sweets for all finishers.

The race starts and finishes on Central Promenade in Cleethorpes with fabulous coastal views along The Humber and out to sea.
The first 2 miles are based entirely along the coast, where runners can see for miles around.
A quick trip through Thorpe Park holiday Park will then see runners enter South Sea Lane and head out to the A1031, which will have a full road closure in place for your safety.
The race then turns left towards Tetney Lock, along very quiet country lanes and onto a lovely trail heading back towards the holiday parks.
A return route along the sea front and onto the promenade where thousands of spectators will cheer you underneath the finish arch.

Road Closure & Traffic Management Information during the 2017 ABP Humber Coastal Half Marathon
As race organisers our number one priority is safety. We have a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order in place for the race. This is legally binding and prevents traffic from entering the race route and some surrounding streets before and during the race.
We acknowledge that this may cause some disruption to some people, but respectfully ask you to plan ahead, making minor adjustments to your normal routine. You will see lots of people in hi viz jackets at all road junctions. These are volunteers who are giving up their time to make the event safe and enjoyable for all. We ask that you are kind and respectful of these super volunteers.
This will be closed from The Pier to Brighton Slipway to all traffic from 7am. We expect it to be fully re-opened around 2.30pm. Local businesses who have parking permits will be allowed to park near to the beach safety offices.
The area from Cleethorpes Leisure Centre to Thorp Park is affected. This will be closed to all pedestrians and cyclists from 8am until around 1.30pm
Haven Holiday Site
The main road through the site will be closed for around 45 minutes from 9.50 am. It will re-open as soon as it is safe to do so.
There will be a controlled crossing point in place opposite the walkers car park/Fitties from around 1040am until around 1pm
Car Park on holiday park/near coastal path
This will be closed from 7am onwards until around 1pm
South Sea Lane
This will be closed from 9.30 am until around 11am
A1031 from South Sea Lane to Teteny Cross Roads
This will be closed from 9.30 am until 1130 am. A clearly signed diversionary route will be in place for traffic travelling through Tetney.
The road from Tetney Cross Roads to Philips 66 will be closed from 9.30 am until around 12 noon. Diversionary route in place.
You will see lots of these signs around Grimsby, indicating times that roads will be closed. This is the absolute worst case scenario and roads will be opened up on a rolling basis as soon as it is safe to do so. Rest assured, we will open sections of road up asap.
We will be going to significant lengths to advertise the road closures
- letters delivered to residents and businesses on the route
- Local media awareness
- Social media posts
- Advanced signage on the route 2 weeks before race day
- Signed diversionary routes
- Consultation with all emergency services
- Correspondence with Parish Councils
- Bus and taxi companies aware
- Haven holiday park meetings
- Fitties community groups contacted
