Gruesome Race Day Info
October 7, 2018
Saturday 13th October 2018
10km starts at 1030
Half Marathon starts at 1100
Thank you for entering the 7th Gruesome Twosome event. With less than a week to go we are delighted to announce that the race is full. Over 800 runners have put their best foot forward to have a super day out on the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds. We are very grateful that we are able to host the race in this area of outstanding natural beauty.
This is absolutely a litter free event. We respectfully ask you to leave the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds as you find them. Put gel wrappers in the pocket you take them out of! Anyone found discarding litter will be disqualified from the race and will not receive their Beanie hat etc……Thanks for your total support of this.
Transfer of runners You can do this up until 3pm on Wednesday 10th October. Full details of how to do so are in the FAQ’s at RACE WEB SITE
Transfer from Half to 10k You can do this until 3pm on Wednesday 10th October. Please e mail email@example.com
Ill/injured This is a challenging event and whilst we have medical cover in place, they are there for unplanned situations and not one that could be avoided by not taking part in the race.
Car Share We ask that you consider car sharing. This will make your arrival a seamless one and reduce the impact on the environment. If you live on the north of the Humber, why not consider meeting up at the Humber Bridge car park and travel together from there.
Car Parking This is in a large field just off the A46 on the right hand side as you drop into Swallow Village. There will be signs and a marshal showing you where to park. Please do not park in the village. Post code LN7 6DE will take you there.
Village Pub Unfortunately the pub is still closed down and will be so for the foreseeable future. There are plenty of other pubs in the immediate area in Rothwell, Great Limber, Caistor and the outskirts of Grimsby if you are looking to stay over for a beer/meal.
Number Collection This will be in the play park in Swallow, which for those of you who have run before is our traditional finish area. Numbers will be available from 9am on race day, only need for one of the runners to collect. The park is easy to find, you walk out of the same gate you have driven through to park up and turn right for about 2 minutes, easy!
Operation Christmas Child
We are working with this fantastic charity at the race. They will have a stand in the park where they will be on hand to take any kind gift donations from you. These will be distributed to needy children all over the world. They are looking for the following items, so please do your best to support them……………
Small cuddly toys
One item will go a long way to making Christmas special for a young child……thanks v much
Headphones As per UK Athletics rulings, headphones are NOT ALLOWED. This is for your safety as whilst the roads are quiet, you must be able to hear your surroundings. Runners wearing them will be banned from the race and will not receive their finishers’ beanie etc. Please respect this safety advice.
Toilets These are all located in the car park. There are no other toilets on the course.
Distance to the start lines The races start in different places and are both around 0.75 miles from where you collect your numbers. These will be well sign posted, but please allow plenty of time for the run/jog/walk down there.
Race Timing……How on earth does this work? Quite simply it is a race in pairs, so there is absolutely no point in one of the runners finishing ahead of their partner. The time for the team will be taken from the last of the 2 runners over the line.
Generally runners will want to finish together as they cross the line with their hands raised…that way we can see your numbers.
If you do find yourself ahead of your partner we suggest you wait for them in the lay by which is about 50m before the finish line. This way you can encourage each other and finish together, in the true spirit of the Gruesome Twosome race. (Clue is in the race title!)
We do not use chip timing to keep the costs at a reasonable level for you all.
Help us to help you by making sure your number is clearly visible in front of you as you cross the line.
Results will appear on the web site within 2 days of the race taking place.
We still need a few more volunteers to assist on the day. If you know anyone who wants to be part of the event please e mail Nicola@tape2tape.co.uk . Race crew beanie hat for all!
You can buy a cuppa and a biscuit from the park pre-race. All proceeds will be going to Operation Christmas Child.
On the day sales in the park
Metres to Miles of Epworth, specialist running shop will be selling some of their great running kit.
The Tape2Tape gazebo will have bargain socks and technical tee shirts from previous races for sale (£1each!)
There is lots of information on the race WEB SITE . The faqs are very informative.
Some of you will be aware that both of our dads sadly died earlier this year within a few weeks of each other. They were both key members of the race crew and of course will be sadly missed. Neil’s dad Bryan always looked after the marshal spot at the top of the last hill. He loved it there and runners always knew it was downhill from there! For this year only, Neil’s mum Jean has decided that she will marshal at this point. Please give a shout out for Bryan at his marshal spot
Nicola’s mum Yvonne will continue to do the job she loves which is to sell the socks and tee shirts at the Tape2Tape gazebo
All the best
Nicola and Neil Pattison
