Total North Lincolnshire Half Marathon/5k live race cancellation – We are going Virtual!

June 5, 2020

Update 1445 hours Friday 5th June 2020

Firstly, we hope that you and your nearest and dearest are all keeping safe and well, it has been an incredibly unique and sombre period for a lot of us since lockdown. Very slowly we are beginning to see a chink of light at the end of the tunnel, but it seems we still have a long way to go.

We are just starting to see businesses slowly opening their doors with new innovative ways to survive through this period. As a small business ourselves here at Tape2Tape we are having to think of ways to do the same. Unfortunately we are not yet in receipt of any guidance or directions for the coming weeks and months in relation to holding mass participation events. In honesty, as a business that holds safety as our number one priority, we would not want to bring masses of people together until we are well and truly satisfied that it is safe to do so and that we also have the support and guidance from our local Events Safety Advisory Group, Public Health England, and our Licence provider, Run Britain.

As a result of this we will be unable to host the Total North Lincolnshire Half Marathon & 5k on the 16th August at Quibell Park as planned, the original date was initially the 3rd May. We know this will be very disappointing for you, it is devastating for us, however, at this unprecedented time we are still very committed to uniting the running community and supporting your mental health and physical wellbeing. We can do this by bringing you an opportunity to join us at the race which will now take place as a unique and exciting Virtual Event.

Due to the continued support from Total and our other sponsors, we are going to host this year’s event as a unique and exciting Virtual Race experience that will be as close to the real event as we possibly can, giving you 2 weeks to complete the distance. For those of you that love competing this will be right up your street as we will have a results board and usual prizes!! We have already taken delivery of your fabulous medals, ordered your T/shirts and engraved the Trophies, so would welcome the opportunity for you to join together with us to forge a fabulous virtual event that you will be proud to support, helping us celebrate the 9th year as we all do our best to stay safe and continue to fight off this virus.

HOW THE UNIQUE VIRTUAL RACE WILL WORK

To give you the full race experience we will:

  • Post you out the fabulous EVENT MEDAL, EVENT T-SHIRT & RUNNING NUMBER – you will receive this before the 16th August. (the medal hosts the original race date)
  • Virtually start the race at 9am on Sunday 16th August with a fully erected arch (at a location!) we’ll sound the horn to kickstart the event!
  • Give you until the 31st August to run the distance and register your times – (you can run, walk or jog the distance all at once, or in small chunks)
  • Enable you to submit your results manually or via a DIRECT LINK from STRAVA OR GARMIN CONNECT
  • Have an extensive PRIZE POOL – Trophies will be posted out to all the winners (Yes you can still compete!!)
  • Enable you to print off a personalised certificate with your accomplishment and finish time
  • Publish a full set of RESULTS
  • Continue to support our regular community groups and charities that come along to this event year on year
  • Bring you altogether virtually and share your endeavours on our social media platforms
  • Hand out spot prizes for the best pictures wearing your race tee and running number

Presently 6 people can meet up to exercise together if they are socially distanced, this would be a great way of taking part in the event and supporting each other.

Further information about the event can be found HERE
