Grimsby Town Travelling Supporters….Road Closures

May 28, 2022

We are delighted that Grimsby Town have reached the play off finals in London on Sunday 5th June, the same day as the well-established Orsted Great Grimsby 10k. Everyone involved in organising the race wishes the club all the very best for the final and hope they have a swift return to the football league.

The 10k is a significant community event  for the town, bringing in around 3000 runners, with thousands of pounds being raised for local charities and community groups.  Planning for this race takes around 11 months in total.

We would like to advise you of the extensive road closures which will be in place that day from 8am until 11am. Some roads in the town centre will be closed for 6am.  We anticipate this will impact on supporters travelling down to London that morning. The road closures are in place for the safety of all runners and other road users. They have been agreed by North East Lincolnshire Council and are legally binding. We also employ the services of a traffic management company to safely close down the roads, which will prevent any vehicle movements during the stated times.

The last thing we want as race organisers is for your supporters to be stuck in road closures by not being aware that the race is taking place. Our advice would be to totally avoid the road closures, or if you have to  travel on the roads affected by the race to make sure you set off  before 7.45am. That way it will make for a smooth journey don to the capital.

The map of the race route itself can be found https://www.plotaroute.com/route/910162 .

Details of the specific road closures concerned are below.

Great Grimsby Town Centre roads will begin to close from 0600 hrs, All other roads will start to be closed down from 0800 hrs. We expect the full network to be back to normal by 11.45

You will see lots of these signs around Grimsby, indicating times that roads will be closed. This is the absolute worst-case scenario and roads will be opened up on a rolling basis as soon as it is safe to do so. Rest assured; we will open sections of road up as soon as safely possible.
