British Record broken at ABP Humber Coastal 5km race

Tape2Tape who organise the annual ABP Humber Coastal half marathon and 5km road races are delighted that Lynne Higgins of Wolds Veteran Runners Club, broke the British all time record for the 5km. Competing in the age category 65 plus, Lynne finished in an amazing time of 20 minutes and 2 seconds, to run the fastest time ever in a 5k race!

Lynne said, ” I stopped running at the age of  17 as I was too busy being a teenager and didn’t run again until 38. I  started just running a  mile at a time until I could run few miles always on my own running around Cleethorpes.

5 years ago my son Spencer started to run asked me to go to Parkrun with him which I did regularly until my granddaughter was born then my Saturdays were taken up with babysitting!   I now train 5 – 6 days a week running anything from 5 – 10 miles, further if training for 1/2 marathon. My running  highlights include running in a British Masters event last year and winning an individual gold medal for F60 5k and also team gold.

If one person is inspired to run by my story I would be delighted.

Neil Pattison from Tape2Tape said, this is one amazing achievement. Lynne is an inspiration to many people. As a reward Lynne has been given a free entry to all of our 2020 races, so hope we will see some more records break, including the world record for a 5k, which Lynne was just 12 seconds outside. We will be back on 20th September 2020 with a bigger and better event.”

Simon Bird, Director of ABP Humber, says: ‘The ABP Humber Coastal Half Marathon and 5km is a great event year after year. It was brilliant to see Cleethorpes buzzing with excitement . And now, to be able to claim the race as a British record breaking route, makes it even more brilliant. Well done to Lynne on her achievement.’
