Environmentally friendly water stations
We put a 2 part plan in place to remove all plastic bottles from our races at the drinks stations both out on the course and the finish line of all our races. For us we need to balance out the needs to keep runners hydrated as well as having a keen focus on our environmental impact.
For the last 2 years we have used paper cups on the course water stations. We selected cups that recycling centres are happy to recycle for us. We do our utmost to ensure as many of the cups end up in the recycling centre post race.
Happy with the course water stations, phase 2 is to remove plastic bottles from our finish line at every race from no onwards.
We trialled this with great success at the Orsted Great Grimsby 10k.
Every runner will be handed a paper cup as they cross the finish line. Please take your first drink and hang onto the cup as there will be a self-service re-fill area nearby where you can top up as many times as you need. Look out for the big flags with the word WATER on them!
Once finished with your cup please take it over to our recycling centre. Look out for the flags with RECYLICNG on them!
