Medical provision

UK Athletics specify the amount of medical coverage that is needed at any road race that they licence. With our ethos of safety being our number one priority, we always far exceed the minimum requirements. We will have a fully staffed first aid post at the finish as well as one out on the course.

Marshals

Our team of Course Marshals are from 7 local charities who all receive a financial donation from the race, plus some free entries to enable them to raise much needed funds.

They will be in place at every road junction, for the safety of all runners as well as other road users. Please ensure that you obey the instructions of marshals at all times. There will be more than 100 volunteer marshals on the course, so please show your appreciation as you run past them.

There will also be a team of Cycle Marshals out on the route plus many other volunteers at the start and finish. Please give them a big smile and a thank you….when you have got your breath back!

Risk assessment

A risk assessment complying with UK Athletics requirements will be regularly updated as planning for the race progresses.

Lead car/cyclists

A lead car and cyclists will be on the course ahead of the lead runners warning other road users that runners are on their way.

Road closure & traffic management information during the  Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k

Sunday 1st June 2025

The Great Grimsby 10k is a really important event for the area. It attracts thousands of runners from miles around.

The race supports many local community groups and charities in the fantastic work they do in our communities. It is also a big motivator to keep people moving in the support of their physical and mental well-being.

Link to race route – https://www.plotaroute.com/route/910162

As race organisers our number one priority is the safety of our runners, race volunteers and the general public.

North East Lincolnshire Council have authorised a temporary traffic regulation order for the race. This is legally binding and prevents traffic from entering the race route and some surrounding streets before and during the race.

You must not drive onto the race route as you will potentially be putting the runners, volunteers(of which many children will be helping out) as well as yourself at risk.

A traffic management company will have responsibility for managing all Road closures during the event.

Roads will start to close from 630am with the network expected to be back to normal by 1145am.

We acknowledge that this may cause disruption to some people for which we are sorry, but respectfully ask you to plan ahead making minor adjustments to your normal routine.

Emergency services

The plan to close the Roads has been agreed with all emergency services. They have plans in place so it is business as normal for them

Grimsby Hospital (DPOW)

Hospital managers and East Midlands Ambulance Service have a plan in place so that access to the hospital is maintained at all times.

Any members of the public wishing to access the hospital during the Road closures can do so via Second Avenue.

All hospital department heads have been advised of the road closures so they can communicate plans to anyone with a pre-arranged appointment.

Hi-Viz Jackets

You will see lots of people in hi viz jackets at all Road junctions. These are volunteers who are giving up their time to make the event safe and enjoyable for all. They will do their best to keep you updated about what is happening and where feasible offer up alternate routes to assist you.

We ask that you are kind and respectful of these super volunteers.

Town Hall Square

Great Grimsby Town Hall Square and Doughty Road will begin to close from 0630 hrs.

All other Roads

All other Roads will start to be closed down from 0800 hrs.

We expect the full network to be back to normal by 11.45.

Advances Road closure signs

You will see lots of signs around Grimsby, indicating times that roads will be closed. This is the absolute worst-case scenario and roads will be opened up on a rolling basis as soon as it is safe to do so.

Rest assured; we will open sections of road up as soon as safely possible.

TAPE2TAPE EVENTS COMMITMENT TO SUPPORT THE ENVIRONMENT

Here at Tape2Tape we are committed to ensuring our events are sustainable and have minimum impact on the environment.

To be a litter free race encourage recycling to reduce waste.

To help achieve this we aim to ensure that we reduce the amount of single use items at the event. This includes all our meal and drink providers. We encourage our race participants and attendees to be litter/waste free by being mindful to dispose of items properly, recycling where possible. Our aims are to ensure that more is being recycled at our events.

We encourage runners not to bring single use plastic bottles to drink on the route, we have adequate water stations, all with recyclable paper cups. If runners do carry a bottle, we ask that they please try to ensure that it is a reusable one.

We have a recycling tent at the finish line of the Great Grimsby 10k. This is so everyone can head over to the tent with their litter and waste, there will be a small team to assist you in placing it in the right bins! Together we can recycling as much as we can at this event!

Some of the other ways that we ensure we maintain a positive environmental impact and ensure our events are sustainable, they include:

  • Working closely with our local authority at North East Lincolnshire Council who assist us by collecting all recyclable race packaging and disposing of on our behalf
  • Optional tee shirts
  • Using recyclable paper cups at all water stations
  • Paper cups (that you can refill for free) will now be used at the finish line
  • A designated recycling station will be at the finish area
  • Any discarded clothing left on the start line by runners is collected and then donated to a local charity who receive funds for the recyclable weight
  • No paper material is posted out to participants – key information is emailed out by a full colour PDF race brochure
  • We do not give away post-race goody bags that containing paper items/leaflets etc.
  • We endeavour to use an electric lead car in the race to reduce emissions around the race route
  • Spare event medals are donated to a local charity to reuse or recycle for funds
  • We encourage runners to bring along old trainers, medals and clothing that will be recycled by a local charity
  • Using local service providers
  • All our refreshment providers are required to use recyclable, cups, trays, etc.
  • Encouraging car sharing where is safe and appropriate to do so
  • Provide a park and stride for runners and spectators so emissions are reduced in the town centre
  • Encourage local people to walk or cycle to the events.

According to legend, Great Grimsby was founded in the ninth century by a Danish Viking. The name Grimsby is thought to have originated from the Grim’s by, or ‘Grim’s Village’, based on Grim – the Danish Viking thought to be the founder of the town.

Grimsby is today a thriving modern town offering excellent facilities for education, shopping, leisure and work.  Grimsby is undergoing a radical transformation as part of a 25-year vision for the town, including the recently completed £6million town centre regeneration project, key developments on the docks, and exciting leisure developments in the town centre and beyond.

Once the world’s largest fishing port, the town is now benefitting from the rise of the offshore renewable energy industry and is a European centre for food processing.

North East Lincolnshire in a nutshell

North East Lincolnshire – home to the UK’s largest port and the seafood capital of the country.  North East Lincolnshire covers 192 square kilometres and includes the port towns of Great Grimsby and Immingham, the resort town of Cleethorpes and the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The population is about 157,300 and there are about 70,000 households.

Chart-topper Ella Henderson, motorbike ace Guy Martin, Strictly Come Dancing’s Kevin and Joanne Clifton, Miranda star Patricia Hodge, elephant man John Hurt and Australia’s most-despised soap character, Mrs Nell Mangel, played by actress Vivean Gray, are all from the borough.

Legendary music producer and former fish factory worker Rod Temperton is from Cleethorpes. He wrote and produced many of Michael Jackson’s biggest hits including Rock With You, Off the Wall and Thriller.

Elton John’s 1974 track ‘Grimsby’ was written by Bernie Taupin about his time in the town as a teenager. One line reads: “Oh England you’re fair, but there’s none to compare with my Grimsby. Through nights of mad youth, I have loved every sluice in your harbour.”

North East Lincolnshire’s key business sectors are:  ports and logistics, food processing, energy and renewables, chemical and process, housing and development and the visitor economy.
