Road closure & traffic management information during the  Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k

Sunday 1st June 2025

The Great Grimsby 10k is a really important event for the area. It attracts thousands of runners from miles around.

The race supports many local community groups and charities in the fantastic work they do in our communities. It is also a big motivator to keep people moving in the support of their physical and mental well-being.

As race organisers our number one priority is the safety of our runners, race volunteers and the general public.

North East Lincolnshire Council have authorised a temporary traffic regulation order for the race. This is legally binding and prevents traffic from entering the race route and some surrounding streets before and during the race.

You must not drive onto the race route as you will potentially be putting the runners, volunteers(of which many children will be helping out) as well as yourself at risk.

A traffic management company will have responsibility for managing all Road closures during the event.

Roads will start to close from 630am with the network expected to be back to normal by 1145am.

We acknowledge that this may cause disruption to some people for which we are sorry, but respectfully ask you to plan ahead making minor adjustments to your normal routine.

Emergency services

The plan to close the Roads has been agreed with all emergency services. They have plans in place so it is business as normal for them

Grimsby Hospital (DPOW)

Hospital managers and East Midlands Ambulance Service have a plan in place so that access to the hospital is maintained at all times.

Any members of the public wishing to access the hospital during the Road closures can do so via Second Avenue.

All hospital department heads have been advised of the road closures so they can communicate plans to anyone with a pre-arranged appointment.

Hi-Viz Jackets

You will see lots of people in hi viz jackets at all Road junctions. These are volunteers who are giving up their time to make the event safe and enjoyable for all. They will do their best to keep you updated about what is happening and where feasible offer up alternate routes to assist you.

We ask that you are kind and respectful of these super volunteers.

Town Hall Square

Great Grimsby Town Hall Square and Doughty Road will begin to close from 0630 hrs.

All other Roads

All other Roads will start to be closed down from 0800 hrs.

We expect the full network to be back to normal by 11.45.

Advances Road closure signs

You will see lots of signs around Grimsby, indicating times that roads will be closed. This is the absolute worst-case scenario and roads will be opened up on a rolling basis as soon as it is safe to do so.

Rest assured; we will open sections of road up as soon as safely possible.
