Race Day Preparation

Nicola and Neil from Tape2Tape are both experienced runners and have raced over distances from 100m up to 50 miles. We would like to share our Top Tips to assist you in preparing for race day.

If you have any further tips of your own you would like us to share, pop us an e mail to info@tape2tape.co.uk

Pre-Race Preparation

  1. Plan Ahead:
    • Read our Runner Guide…….from cover to cover several times over!
    • Know the race location, start time and logistics (parking, baggage facility  etc.).
    • Don’t forget your runner number and safety pins.
    • Arrive early with plenty of time to use the loos….race day is likely to be busy.
  2. Lay Out Your Gear:
    • Set out your race-day clothes, bib, shoes  and any accessories (watch, hat, etc.) the night before.
    • Don’t try anything new—stick to gear and clothing you’ve trained in…..unless you fancy a new blister!
  3. Fuel and Hydrate:
    • Eat a balanced meal the night before, focusing on carbohydrates.
    • Stay hydrated but don’t overdo it.
  4. Sleep Well:
    • Aim for a good night’s sleep two nights before the race, as pre-race nerves might make the night before restless.

Morning of the Race

  1. Wake Up Early:
    • Give yourself plenty of time to eat, get dressed and arrive at the venue without stress.
    • Pop a selfie of yourself arriving at the race on social media and tag us in.
  2. Eat a Familiar Breakfast:
    • Stick to foods you’ve practiced with—usually something light, high in carbs, and low in fibre or fat.
  3. Warm-Up:
    • Do light jogging and dynamic stretches to get your body ready.

During the Race

  1. Start Slow:
    • Avoid the temptation to go out too fast. Stick to your planned pace.
  2. Stick to Your Fuelling Plan:
    • Take water at intervals you’ve practiced.
  3. Run Your Race:
    • Stay focused on your goals and avoid comparing yourself to others.
  4. Mindset Matters:
    • Use positive self-talk. Break the race into smaller, manageable segments.

Post-Race Recovery

  1. Cool Down:
    • Walk for a few minutes after crossing the finish line to help your body recover and keep warm in the colder weather.
  2. Refuel:
    • Eat a mix of carbs and protein within 30 minutes to replenish energy and aid muscle recovery.
  3. Stretch or Foam Roll:
    • Gently stretch major muscle groups or use a foam roller to ease tightness.
  4. Celebrate Your Achievement:
    • Take a moment to savour your accomplishment, no matter the outcome.
    • Download the free race pics we provide for you and share them on social media, tagging us in so we can share for you.
