Well here are our Top 5 Tips to help you remain injury free whilst training!
1) Warm up & Cool down efficiently 🔥🥶
Spend 5-10 minutes minimum warming up before runs e.g light jogging or dynamic stretching and cooling down with static stretching, foam rolling or slower paced jogging!
2) Incorporate strength and stability training 🏋️
Focus on strengthening key muscle groups that support your joints whilst running, don’t forget about your core! Having strength and stability is key to reducing injury risk as well as enhancing your running efficiency.
3) Recovery and Nutrition 💦🍎
Fuel your body with a balanced diet, including enough protein, carbs and healthy fats to support your energy requirements and recovery.
Stay hydrated; drink water consistently throughout the day increasing intake dependent on exercise output and things like temperature during training.
4) Correct form & technique 👟
Maintain good posture, keep your stride short to avoid over stretching and exerting energy when it isn’t needed. Visit a running coach if you need more advice on how you run!
Invest in correct footwear or custom fit orthotics 👣 ensuring you have suitable support in the correct places will reduce stress across your body whilst exercising.
5) Have prevention treatment 💆
Regular sports massage helps to reduce muscular tension built through exercise. It also helps to reduce DOMS and lactic acid build up which may affect performance. Seeing a specialist allows them to pick up on niggles before they turn into injuries that may require you to stop exercising!
